Measures Taken by Arico City Council After Rock Falls in Tajao Coast
The City Council of Arico has implemented safety measures following rock falls on the coast of Tajao last weekend. To ensure public safety, the affected area was marked off with fences and warning signs to prevent access and reduce the risk of accidents.
Gesplan technicians, along with municipal experts, the Councilor for Works, and the First Deputy Mayor, visited the site on July 29th to assess the situation. The Council has also sought assistance from the Cabildo of Tenerife and the Government of the Canary Islands, specifically in the areas of Coasts and Emergencies, to address critical areas promptly.
The Council suspects that the landslides may be linked to the earthquake that occurred on July 27, as they occurred shortly after the seismic activity. Consequently, they have requested guidance from the Spanish Geological and Mining Institute (IGME) to conduct a comprehensive study to comprehend the causes and effects of the landslides and take preventive measures for the future.
Arico City Council is actively monitoring the situation and collaborating closely with relevant authorities to ensure a well-coordinated response to the Tajao landslides.
