A joint censure motion by PP, CC, and ACP against Mayor Marco González of Cross Port was exclusively reported by DIARY OF NOTICES. The motion was presented at midday yesterday in the council, with the first councillors signing it on different days before the motion was initiated. The Portuense Citizen Assembly (ACP) decided to leave the pact with PSOE and pursue an alternative government with PP and CC. This decision, supported by 65% of ACP members, alarmed the President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, who confirmed the agreement with Torres.
Clavijo discussed with Torres the implications of the agreement and the reasons behind CC’s involvement. However, the situation might change if CC opts out, especially considering how PSOE in La Laguna integrated CC into the government without making pacts with other left-wing parties. The PSOE regional executive inquired if their party colleagues in Puerto were open to negotiations with CC, to which they responded positively.
High-level political figures like the Secretary of Organization of the PSOE, Santos Cerdá, and Sumar’s Yolanda Díaz were also involved in mediating the situation. The ACP councillors justified their decision to support the censure motion, citing the abandonment of city priorities by the local PSOE. They also highlighted the lack of support for their party’s policies despite prior agreements.
The ACP members unanimously supported the departure from the government and a vote of no confidence with conservatives and nationalists. They expressed pride in their formation and loyalty, criticizing the PSOE for not fulfilling agreed-upon allocations, which led to the suspension of key projects and financial delays.
“THEY DIDN’T RESPECT US”
According to the ACP leader, the local PSOE failed to respect their partnership and breached agreements signed in 2023. They expressed frustrations over delays in fund disbursement and lack of support for crucial projects. The councillor criticised the attempts to enforce uniform voting and the mayor’s dominant role in communications.
