SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Aug. 1 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The authorities in the Canary Islands have reported a disturbing incident involving a man driving on the island of Tenerife. The man was found to have an expired driving license, was carrying a minor without a proper child restraint system, and was driving with an alcohol level above the legal limit.
The case came to light when officers, alerted to a potential risk to a minor by the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, intercepted the vehicle on the TF-5 motorway heading towards Puerto de la Cruz. The vehicle was speeding at over 150 km/h, as stated in a press release from the Canary Islands Presidency Department.
The vehicle contained a young couple with two children, each belonging to one of the adults. Shockingly, one child was not secured in an appropriate child restraint system.
Upon stopping the vehicle, it was discovered that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. Furthermore, illegal substances such as hashish and cocaine were found in his possession. Due to the uncooperative behaviour of the couple, the Canine Guide Group of the Canary Police was called in to assist in finding more illegal substances.
The authorities took immediate protective measures for the children. The two-year-old was handed over to his mother, who arrived at the scene upon request. The three-year-old was placed in a protection centre because there were no relatives available to care for him.
Subsequently, with the cooperation of the Local Police of Puerto de la Cruz, appropriate legal actions were taken against the driver.
