The Department of Historical Heritage of the City Council of La Laguna will offer more than 200 guided tours of the city center between this Saturday and December 3. The sessions will be free and will be held by a dozen buildings located in the space declared World Heritage by Unesco.

It has been 22 years since he received that distinction and, among the events prepared by the area to celebrate it, is this activity. The mayor responsible for the area, Elvira Jorge, stressed that the purpose is “to facilitate all citizens, both neighbors and visitors, the enjoyment of our heritage wealth”, as well as “to disseminate the historical and cultural values of our legacy, raising awareness with this on the need to conserve it, protect it and safeguard it ”.

In total, some 240 guided tours will be carried out, led by eight experts, and at least one session per property will have a sign language interpreter. The incorporation of this inclusive offer, as well as other initiatives planned to commemorate the XXII anniversary, responds to the “priority line of work” that has been set by the Department “to promote knowledge and dissemination of the heritage assets of our city among all people, without exception ”.

The action includes access to 10 relevant buildings within the World Heritage site: the churches of Nuestra Señora de la Concepción and Santo Domingo de Guzmán, the old convent of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, the noble rooms of the City Hall, the House of the Captains General, the Royal Economic Society of Friends of the Country of Tenerife, the Palacio de Lercaro (Museum of History and Anthropology of Tenerife), the old convent of San Agustín, the church-cathedral of Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios and the Salazar Palace ( Bishopric of Tenerife).

The visits will take place in the morning and afternoon and in small groups, in accordance with current health regulations and recommendations, to ensure safety. Therefore, people interested in attending will have to register, in strict order of arrival, in the registry set up at the entrances to the buildings.

Elvira Jorge invites the population to participate in this and the rest of the activities organized to commemorate the XXII anniversary, details of which are available on the City Council website (https://www.aytolalaguna.es/servicios/patrimonio-historico/).
