Extension of Deadline for Registering People Affected by Volcanic Eruption in La Palma

The Canarian Executive, during the Governing Council, has approved a decree that extends the deadline for submitting applications for registration in the database of individuals impacted by the volcanic eruption on the island of La Palma until December 31, 2024.
Decree Law 14/2021, dated October 28, which outlines the general process framework for emergency aid procedures to address the requirements arising from the emergency situation due to the volcanic eruption, established the registry of those affected by volcanic eruptions on the island of La Palma to facilitate aid processing with enhanced effectiveness, efficiency, and speed, as stated by the regional Executive in a press release.
Following the revision made by Legislative Decree 8/2022, dated June 23, the deadline for submitting registration applications was prolonged in 2022. Furthermore, the decree highlights that due to various reasons not attributed to the administration, not all affected individuals could be included in the aforementioned registry. Hence, it is crucial, on an exceptional basis, to extend the set deadline, utilising the authorisation provided in section 1 of article 9 of the aforementioned Legislative Decree 14/2021, dated October 28, to establish a new deadline until December 31, 2024.

Additionally, the Governing Council has determined the key roles for the initial rollout of the temporary management unit for the social and economic rehabilitation of La Palma, assigning credits for personnel costs, amounting to 206,535 euros from June to December.
Accordingly, the budget includes seven positions in the economic-administrative sector, covering roles from management to assistants.
