Canary Islands, under the leadership of Antonio Ortega at the Canarian Housing Institute (ICAVI), has announced a tender for the design and construction project, project management, and execution, as well as the management of sub-project works and coordination of safety and health, for the development of 17 publicly promoted affordable homes in El Sauzal municipality, with a tender budget of 197,932.47 euros.

This initiative demonstrates the commitment of the Canary Islands Housing Institute to promote the construction of public housing to enhance the overall residential situation and improve housing accessibility for individuals facing challenges, including youth, seniors over 65, disadvantaged groups, eviction victims, those experiencing energy poverty, women survivors of gender-based violence, homeless individuals, among others. Interested companies can submit their bids through the Public Sector Contracting Platform until August 1.

In another development, the municipal market in the town centre of El Sauzal has undergone a transformation to enhance its appeal to customers. The refurbishment of the main entrance floor has been completed, resulting in a more contemporary and practical look. This renovation was made possible through subsidies for projects aimed at enhancing traditional markets in the Canary Islands and supporting rural commerce, provided by the regional government’s Ministry of Economy, Industry, Commerce and Self-Employed Workers.

The primary goal of this project was to replace the previous floor, which did not meet the required “slipperiness” standards outlined in the Technical Building Code (CTE). The total cost of the renovation amounted to 28,195.76 euros, with the council contributing 18,195.76 euros, and the remaining funds provided by the Canary Islands Government.

Furthermore, the El Sauzal Town Council has undertaken additional refurbishment projects in the municipal market. This includes interior painting of the facility and landscaping work involving the addition of new plants and flowers, enhancing its welcoming and contemporary ambiance.
