The Concern of Socialists in San Juan de la Rambla

Socialists in San Juan de la Rambla

The socialist party in San Juan de la Rambla has expressed significant worry regarding the condition of the town’s pathways. They argue that, for the second year in a row, the overgrowth of brambles and dry weeds poses a significant fire hazard.

They are criticising the current government for their lack of foresight, stating that “fires are extinguished in winter through preventative measures such as clearing the slopes, which act as natural fire barriers,” explained Gloria Méndez, the spokesperson for the socialist group in the local council.

Former mayor Ezequiel Domínguez believes that the current administration is ill-prepared for the summer season with “no proactive strategies against fires, neglected agricultural pathways, absence of maintenance, and barriers hindering access to residents’ properties.”

He also condemned the current government for merely focusing on their salaries at the month-end, stating that the areas near the mountain are under the municipality’s jurisdiction.

“They are replacing essential duties for managing environmental zones with festivities and photo opportunities. They seem to prefer continuing with celebrations while turning a blind eye,” added the spokesperson, noting that the government’s indifference is becoming more apparent, with their focus primarily on selfies and paychecks rather than addressing the concerns of the residents.

The Socialists are now urging for the protection and upkeep of the town’s heritage and reputation, demanding that the authorities “roll up their sleeves after a year of subpar governance.”
