Exploring Morocco and Canary Islands with Ruta Inti Cultural Expedition

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 30 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Celebrating its tenth anniversary, the cultural expedition Ruta Inti is embarking on a journey through Morocco and the Canary Islands with the theme ‘Footprints in the sand, the tenth adventure’. The expedition will be led by the molecular biologist and astronaut Sara García Alonso.

A group of 130 young individuals, aged between 18 and 25, from Spain and six other Latin American countries, will have the unique opportunity to discover the most iconic landscapes in Morocco and the Canary Islands, camping in tents and traditional North African jaimas in the desert. Over the course of a month, they will delve into the natural beauty and rich history of these regions.

“We are returning to the place where our adventures first began a decade ago. It’s a way for us to reminisce about our origins as an expedition and to conclude this remarkable decade,” mentioned Fernando Enríquez, the programme director. “This journey will be a significant moment for Ruta Inti, not only because of our milestone anniversary but also for the narrative we will create. It will shed light on the Amazigh people, who have evolved through time to shape two distinct realities,” he added.

After a two-week exploration of Morocco, Ruta Inti will reach the Canary Islands on Sunday, August 4. The first stop will be in Santa Cruz de La Palma, where the initial camp will be set up. Over five days, the expedition members will visit sites like Cubo de la Galga, El Pilar, Tazacorte, and Caldera de Taburiente. On August 11, the journey will continue to Tenerife for the final leg of the expedition. There, participants will ascend Teide, Spain’s highest peak, and explore La Laguna.

Throughout the expedition, Ruta Inti, with a zero carbon footprint commitment, will host a ‘travelling university’ to promote collective learning and knowledge exchange. This academic initiative will offer lectures, workshops, and round table discussions covering a wide array of subjects such as biology, history, anthropology, and music. Sessions related to Sustainable Development Goals will also be included. The organising team comprises professionals from diverse fields including medicine, gastronomy, international relations, politics, art, and communication.
