SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 29 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Tenerife Symphony Orchestra wrapped up the 2023-2024 season with a total of 60,604 spectators attending the 67 performances presented by the orchestra since last September. These statistics show an overall increase of 15 percent in audience numbers compared to the previous season.
José Carlos Acha, the Councillor for Culture of the Cabildo de Tenerife and president of the symphony group, has positively acknowledged the recovery of the Symphony’s audience that was affected during the pandemic. “The aim of the Patronato Insular de Música is to enhance the well-being of the island through music, and that is why we are committed to ensuring that more people than ever can appreciate their orchestra,” he stated.
The 2023-24 season saw the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra’s nineteen subscription programmes attract 18,065 viewers, with an average of 950 attendees per concert, significantly higher than the previous year, and with one event being fully booked. Among the highlights of the season were two absolute premieres: ‘Tangaraste’, composed by Tenerife-native Gustavo Trujillo, and ‘Elegía a Ruth Schweikert’, composed by Antoni Parera Fons.
The programme tailored for schools and families drew an audience of 10,595, and the orchestra’s community outreach efforts continued with the Open Music series, which took place in various social healthcare centres on the island. This year, the collaboration with the University Hospital of the Canary Islands and the University Hospital Nuestra Señora de Candelaria was also reinstated.
The Tenerife Symphony Orchestra also featured in the operatic events organised by the Tenerife Opera, with a total of 16,444 enthusiasts participating in these performances. Additionally, the orchestra took part in special concerts arranged to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the Tenerife Auditorium, which were completely sold out.
The 67 shows by the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra in this season were complemented by the special Christmas concerts at the Cathedral of La Laguna and Costa Adeje Classics, as well as appearances at the Canary Islands Music Festival, the Villa de La Orotava Chamber Music Festival, and Fimucité. True to tradition, the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra continues to introduce symphonic music to new audiences, presenting concerts in various locations across the island of Tenerife, as well as in hospitals and social welfare centres.
The 2024-2025 season will commence with the special concert for the Fiestas del Santísimo Cristo de La Laguna, conducted by renowned trumpeter Pacho Flores, set to take place on September 6 at the Plaza del Cristo with free admission until full capacity is reached. On Friday, the 13th, the subscription season will kick off at the Auditorio de Tenerife with Vasili Petrenko as conductor and Sergei Dogadin as a guest soloist.
