SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 29 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Tenerife Island Council has earmarked 300,000 euros for a subsidy programme for the fishermen’s associations on the island, aiming to support the continuity of professional fishing. This was announced by the Minister for the Primary Sector, Valentín González, who stated that this financial assistance is intended to bolster the fishing sector by aiding the fishermen’s associations to cover their ongoing expenses required for the regular operation of their activities.
A total of ten brotherhoods will benefit from this funding. It can be utilised for utilities, communication services, office supplies, facility maintenance, insurance costs, or equipment leasing expenses. Moreover, costs related to hiring staff for enhancing technical, financial, or IT support are also covered.
Furthermore, expenses linked to enhancing professionalism resulting from professional activities, such as labour, tax, legal, or similar consultancy services, are eligible for this funding.
The recipient brotherhoods include Our Lady of Light, San Miguel de Tajao, El Pris-Our Lady of Carmen, Great Power of God, Our Lady of Candelaria, San Marcos, San Roque and Isla Baja, San Andrés, Our Lady of Consolation, and Our Lady of Las Mercedes.
Each of the island’s fishermen’s associations will receive a fixed sum of 12,000 euros, with the remaining funds distributed proportionally among these organisations based on various criteria. These include the number of vessels in their ports within the authorised ports of each fishermen’s association as of 31 December of the previous year’s call, along with the officially registered fishing production in the first sale procedure of fishery products conducted by each association.
