The PSOE of Santa Cruz de Tenerife proposes the creation of regulated parking systems for scooters and rental bicycles as one of the solutions to the problems experienced in recent weeks throughout the municipality with electric scooters. The Municipal Socialist Group in the City Council of the capital has presented a motion that seeks to avoid the indiscriminate occupation of public space that has been experiencing.

The occupation of these new parking spaces must be paid for by the rental companies, as specified in the Circulation and Mobility Ordinance. Thus, the socialist proposal involves enforcing the ordinances in force on the matter, something that, in the opinion of the PSOE, is not finished.

The motion, signed by the opposition leader, Patricia Hernández, and the councilor Florentino Guzmán Plasencia, is supported by the aforementioned Circulation and Mobility Ordinance of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council to avoid the chaos that proliferation has caused in the streets of companies that rent personal mobility vehicles. This rule already contained many of the provisions that the General Directorate of Traffic included in Royal Decree 970/2020.

For the councilors of the Municipal Socialist Group, the negligence of the City Council has allowed a problem to arise in the capital. In that sense, they recall that it is not verified that VMP rental companies comply with the Ordinance. Among the articles that are not complied with are those that oblige said companies to deliver a list of the number of scooters to the City Council, as well as the accreditation of having civil liability insurance.
