A comprehensive exhibition showcasing the remarkable art of José Abad, a talented artist from La Laguna, is currently on display at the new headquarters of Mutua Tinerfeña in the heart of La Laguna, just a stone’s throw away from Plaza del Adelantado. This modern space, constructed with contemporary materials and elements, is setting new standards with its architecture and design. The building, including the central covered patio which is a delightful surprise, meets the demands of being located in a city like La Laguna, recognised as a World Heritage Site – the only one in the Canary Islands with such a prestigious title. The new structure not only lives up to this reputation but adds to the richness of the city. Drawing from my observations in other historic cities that share a similar heritage, I have noticed a harmonious coexistence between superb ancient buildings like Romanesque or Gothic architecture, and modern constructions dating back to the 20th century and beyond. It is evident that buildings created today become genuine and true representations of their time when crafted using contemporary architectural styles and materials.
