In the southern region of Tenerife, there are plans to establish three specialised vocational training centres to cater to the needs of the local job market. These centres, strategically located in the most populous municipalities – Arona, Granadilla de Abona, and Adeje, aim to address the educational challenges faced in the region. The Shock Plan for Educational Infrastructures in the South of Tenerife 2024-2031, devised by the Government of the Canary Islands, aims to provide a prompt and effective response to the pressing educational demands in the area.
The comprehensive plan, recently introduced by the Minister of Education, Poli Suárez, and the Director General of Educational Infrastructure and Equipment, Iván González, outlines the construction of ten new educational institutions and the expansion of 17 existing facilities, with a substantial investment of 77.7 million euros.
Among these developments are three Integrated Vocational Training centres, designed to enhance students’ qualifications, align their training paths with industry needs, and foster collaborations with business and trade union bodies to identify labour market requirements.
The first Integrated Vocational Training Centre (CIFP) in Adeje, set to welcome students next September, has faced delays in completion but is now ready to provide courses in various professional fields like food industries, commerce, marketing, IT, communication, hospitality, and tourism. With an investment of 6,638,355 euros, the centre will cater to the growing demand for skilled professionals in the region.
Another centre will be established in Los Cristianos, occupying a significant area opposite the Ichasagua Secondary School. While still in the initial stages, this centre is crucial in meeting the training needs of the municipality of Arona and will require an investment of 8,800,000 euros.
The third CIFP, located within the Granadilla de Abona Business Centre, will focus on offering courses in Energy and Water, Commerce, Marketing, and Chemistry – all of which are aligned with the industrial environment of the region, promoting a sustainable and diversified economy. With an investment of 1,900,000 euros, this vocational training centre emphasises the importance of practical skills in emerging sectors.
