An emotional ceremony was held on Thursday evening to officially name La Cardonera Park in Candelaria after the late local resident Andreína Hernández Cabrera. This honour recognises her exceptional contributions to the Santa Ana neighbourhood.
Mayor Mari Brito presided over the event and highlighted the social impact of this community member: “Andreína was a woman who had a deep affection for her town and its customs. Her unwavering devotion to the Virgen del Carmen and active involvement in the patron saint festivities served as examples for all. However, her dedication to Candelaria extended beyond religious celebrations. Andreína was a committed neighbour, always ready to participate in any initiative that benefitted our community.”
Representing the family, her son, Francisco Hernández, spoke emotionally about his mother: “Today, we feel pride more than sorrow. My mother always harboured an unconditional love for our neighbourhood and its residents. She found joy in assisting others and preserving our traditions. Witnessing her name in this park today is a great honour and a well-deserved tribute to her life of devotion and service. Thank you all for being here.”
DEDICATION
The gathering, attended by family, friends, and neighbours of Andreína Hernández, aimed to commemorate her legacy and dedication to the common good. In addition, the official chronicler of Candelaria, Octavio Rodríguez, provided a brief overview of her life.
The decision to name the park after her not only honours her memory but also aims to inspire future generations to emulate her spirit of service and commitment to the community, as highlighted by the City Council.
