SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 24 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –
A collaboration agreement between the Tenerife Island Council and the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS) has been approved for the establishment of a Sterilization Centre at the Hospital del Norte, with a funding of 700,000 euros. This initiative aims to enhance healthcare services for residents and reduce approximately 1,000 daily travels to the metropolitan area.
During a press conference to announce the decisions made at the Government Council meeting held on Wednesday, President of the Council, Rosa Dávila, and Vice President, Lope Afonso, highlighted the importance of investing in equipment and infrastructure at the Hospital del Norte. This investment will facilitate better access to services for the population in the northern region, with the shared goal of minimising patient displacements, bringing healthcare services closer to the northern area of the island, and delivering benefits to the citizens of Tenerife.
The Sterilization Centre will enable major surgical procedures to be conducted at the Hospital del Norte and will include areas for washing and decontamination, loading of washing machines, preparation and packaging, loading of sterilizers, and a warehouse for sterile materials.
Lope Afonso also highlighted the approval of the Public Employment Offer by the Institute of Social and Socio-Health Care (IASS) for 2024, comprising a total of 432 positions, the highest number achieved to date. This demonstrates the commitment of the Cabildo to reducing temporary employment. Out of these positions, 292 will be open for competitive recruitment, while 140 will be for internal promotions, including 6 reserved for individuals with disabilities.
Additionally, the multi-year expenditure for the care service of 23 residential spaces in supervised accommodation for individuals with mental disabilities on the island of Tenerife has been increased by 70,000 euros. This enhancement aims to continuously improve the quality of life for individuals with mental disabilities by ensuring they receive necessary care and support in a suitable and secure environment.
The Governing Council has also sanctioned a contract with the public company Gesplan for an amount close to 1.4 million euros to execute the project ‘Circular Composting Communities and Community Vermicomposting,’ and expand it to 12 municipalities in Tenerife, as part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan funded by the European Union-Next Generation EU.
The project focuses on recycling bio-waste at its source through domestic and community composting and is being implemented in collaboration with various municipalities on the island. This initiative will lead to the installation of 51 new community composting and vermicomposting areas, in addition to the existing 23 on the island of Tenerife.
