This Thursday, the fifth segment of the central ring of the future Padre Anchieta promenade will be delivered in Tenerife, one of the eleven segments planned. Concurrently, preparations for the foundation and assembly of the temporary support towers for the first four segments are in progress.

The Tenerife Island Council has announced that construction of these initial segments will commence in early September. Island president Rosa Dávila stated, “The assembly work will be started with the aid of skilled operators, specialised welders, and heavy-duty cranes.”

Traffic Modifications

The transfer of the fifth segment will take place from 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, 25th July, until approximately 2:00 a.m. on Friday, 26th July, leading to temporary road closures and requiring a police escort.

The segment is expected to reach the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife by around 10:00 p.m., where it will be loaded onto a 38-metre-long, 47-tonne truck. The transportation route will include the internal roads of the port, continue along the coastal road, pass through the coastal road tunnel in the opposite direction, traverse the Juan Amigó de Lara tunnel (Avenida Tres de Mayo), and finally ascend the TF-5 to the Padre Anchieta interchange for unloading.

Drivers in the vicinity during the installation period are advised by the Tenerife Council to exercise caution and follow the guidance provided by highway workers.

Significant Development in Progress

The Padre Anchieta promenade project involves the installation of 11 metal sections, each weighing 40 tons. A continuous curved beam in the form of a 100-metre diameter ring is being constructed, supported by a network of point supports with a square adjacent to the current car park of the Faculty of Biology of the University of La Laguna.

Upon completion, the eight pedestrian crossings, used by over 20,000 individuals daily, will be eliminated to enhance safety measures and facilitate traffic flow.

The design of the Great Pedestrian Ring represents a momentous feat in this category of infrastructure and has been honoured with the 2019 National Innovation and Design Award presented by the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities of Spain.
