SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 23 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Health Service of the Canary Islands (SCS) will be offering a total of 460 positions for Specialised Health Training in the 2024-2025 application call, marking the largest number of positions announced by the healthcare system in the Canary Islands. This decision was made during the Plenary Session of the Human Resources Commission called by the Ministry of Health, attended by José Ángel González, the General Director of Human Resources at SCS. This agreement will be officially published in the State Gazette.

These 460 positions represent the highest number of applicants in the history of the Canary Islands, with an increase of 136 positions compared to the 2018 training offer for specialist training in the healthcare institutions on the islands. This marks an increase of almost 45 percent over six years.

Compared to 2023, there is an additional 24 positions, representing a 5.5 percent increase, placing the archipelago above the national average of 3 percent. Out of these positions, 23 are for new teaching accreditations, for which SCS has worked towards accrediting new positions and units.

In terms of the offer in Primary Care, the Canary Islands will be offering the maximum quota of accredited positions, with 120 spots available. Out of these, 90 are in Family and Community Medicine and thirty in Family and Community Nursing.

MENTAL HEALTH

Concerning other specialties, the emphasis is on the offer of positions in the Mental Health field, seen as a strategic priority by the Ministry of Health. A total of 41 positions are dedicated to this area, with twelve in Psychiatry, ten in Clinical Psychology, and seventeen in Nursing specialising in Mental Health. Additionally, this overall offer includes, for the first time, two positions for specialised health training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Among other notable specialties are Pediatrics with twenty positions, Anesthesiology with sixteen, Radiology with twelve, Internal Medicine with twelve, and Intensive Medicine with eleven positions, along with 27 spots for the Obstetric-Gynecological Nursing specialty.

The General Director of Human Resources at SCS emphasised that the healthcare centres within SCS “have exerted significant efforts to promote specialised training through management and educational guidance committees.”
