The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure of La Laguna City Council has recently unveiled a new parking area behind the municipal market facilities in Plaza del Cristo. Access to this conveniently located space, near the city’s historic centre, will be free of charge.
Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, the mayor of La Laguna, stated that this parking area will provide around one hundred spaces to the public. The 2,000 square meter area was made available after the completion of necessary enhancement works in the vicinity.
Furthermore, the mayor highlighted that a new entrance for vehicles has been established at Avenida República Argentina, close to La Constitución Park and the Camino Largo Infant and Primary School.
Angel Chinea, the councillor for Works and Infrastructures of La Laguna, explained that the area had been used for illegal dumping of waste and large items for several years. As a result, the work took longer than anticipated due to the challenges involved in clearing the land from the accumulated debris.
Chinea also mentioned that the City Council’s goal for this term is to create up to 7,000 new parking spaces across the municipality. Progress towards this objective is evident with the opening of parking areas like the one behind the Market, as well as those established in the citizen centres of San Bartolomé de Geneto and San Miguel de Geneto, La Hornera road, Vallehermoso avenue, Milán avenue (Tejina), the citizen centre of Los Baldíos, and La Villa road.
