SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 21 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

This morning, the Canary Islands experienced high temperatures once again, with some areas of the archipelago reaching nearly 30 degrees. Data from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) reported that since midnight, the hottest locations in the country have been found on the islands.

One of the warmest spots in the country this morning was Agüimes, in Gran Canaria, where temperatures soared to 29.4 degrees at 01:00. Following closely was San Bartolomé de Tirajaba, also in Gran Canaria, with temperatures at 27.8 degrees by 00:50.

Noteworthy temperatures included 27.8 degrees at 00.10 in the municipality of Güímar, Tenerife; 27.6 degrees at Pájara (Fuerteventura) at 00:10; and 27.3 degrees at the Aemet station at the Doramas Forestry Centre, on Teide.

The heatwave gripping the archipelago has brought strong winds with it. For example, in La Aldea de San Nicolás, Gran Canaria, gusts of up to 90 km/h were recorded at 06:40, along with 78 km/h gusts in Arure (La Gomera) at 02:50.

Strong winds were also felt in La Dehesa, in the El Hierro municipality of El Pinar, registering gusts of 74 km/h at 01:10, as well as at Gran Canaria Airport and Agüimes, where gusts exceeded 70 km/h at 03:30.

The islands are once again facing a heatwave, with temperatures expected to reach between 30 and 32 degrees on the southern and eastern slopes of the eastern islands and Tenerife. Locally, temperatures could surpass 34 degrees in Gran Canaria.

Very strong gusts are forecasted in the south-east and north-west of the mountainous islands, inland areas of the southern half of Lanzarote and the southern slope of Jandía in Fuerteventura, particularly in the early morning and evening. A yellow warning has been issued for adverse coastal conditions.
