The Camping for a decent home, which has been on the streets for 140 days, has received authorization from the Government Sub-delegation so that, tomorrow, from 10.30 am to 1.30 pm, they will demonstrate in the streets of Santa Cruz. The march is expected to leave the Plaza de la Candelaria, where around thirty people have been camped since September, and move to the Presidency of the Government, through the streets of Bravo Murillo and Ángel Guimerá. In the letter made public by the Camping, the Sub-delegation, although it recommends that it not be held due to the current pandemic situation, does not see reasons for its prohibition.

Among the points of the authorization, it is reflected that the protesters may make use of signature collection tables or campaign booths as a way of exercising their right to assembly, considering the Subdelegation that there is no reason to prohibit it, although it limits it to the act to the one for which permission is being requested. For the representatives of the camping, this means, in practice, that the Subdelegation agrees with the intention of the Santa Cruz City Council to evict them from Plaza Candelaria, for not having municipal permission to occupy public land, for what they are going to add to their allegations in front of the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands, where they have brought the eviction order, so that it takes it into account.

The Camping yesterday showed its concern about the lack of solutions to the housing problem, “and especially now, heavy rains are coming in the next few days, winter and Christmas are coming, and in the camping there are people who are going to suffer.” They insist that, “despite what Mayor Bermúdez believes, we do not want to remain in the Plaza de la Candelaria in perpetuity, nothing is further from our will.”

The representatives of the campers concluded by noting that “we asked José Manuel Bermúdez to lead a delegation of mayors on the island of Tenerife, where there are so many housing problems for so many families (Adeje, Arona, Granadilla, San Miguel, La Laguna and Santa Cruz), and summon the Cabildo de Tenerife and the Government of the Canary Islands, in conjunction with representatives of the Reclamation Camp, to seek urgent, real and effective solutions for the many affected families, and thus we can raise the Camp ”.
