The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, alongside the vice president Lope Afonso, have voiced their support today for exploring negotiation paths to address the structural problems facing the ‘Adán Martín’ Auditorium.
During a press conference to announce the decisions made by the Governing Council, Dávila admitted that the state of the cultural venue is deteriorating rapidly and referred to the extension of the one-year deadline provided to architect Santiago Calatrava to outline the necessary repairs, a suggestion put forward by the presiding judge.
Expressing regret that the process was “stalled” during the previous administration — a claim contested by the PSOE — Dávila questioned why the socialists are now expressing concern after being inactive for the past four years.
He highlighted the lack of insistence in requesting Calatrava to submit a rehabilitation proposal promptly, which has now been rectified following the judge’s intervention. “It’s quite peculiar,” he remarked.
Lope Afonso echoed similar sentiments, placing the Auditorium’s issues within a “considerably long list” of mismanaged matters by the previous government, and suggested that reaching a mutually agreeable solution through negotiation could be beneficial in resolving the ongoing dispute involving the Cabildo, the Calatrava studio, and the construction company responsible for the project.
Repairing the damages at the Auditorium is estimated by Cabildo technicians to cost around 24 million euros, with the necessary work expected to result in the closure of the facilities for a year.
