SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 16 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Tenerife Island Council will be hosting the first Conference on Isolated Electrical Systems on the 21st and 22nd of November at the ‘Adán Martín’ Auditorium, as announced by the Minister of Industry, Manuel Fernández. He unveiled this initiative on Tuesday alongside Jesús Artemio González, the dean of the College of Industrial Engineers of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, who is co-organising the Conference with the island’s institution.

Manuel Fernández expressed his hopes that through this event, Tenerife will establish itself as the global centre for energy discussions. He highlighted the significance of this issue for the island, given its isolated and vulnerable energy framework, which faces challenges such as power deficits, the necessity to modernise current electricity generation systems, and the promotion of renewable energies.

The island councillor emphasised that the Canary Islands have experienced eight ‘energy zeros’ over the past two decades, five of which occurred in Tenerife. This situation “compels us to address, through dialogue and cooperation, the imperative to tackle the energy model transformation effectively on our island,” he remarked.

Fernández mentioned that the Cabildo, in partnership with the Government of the Canary Islands, is actively working “to address these vulnerabilities by reshaping the island’s electrical infrastructure, establishing a robust and secure model.”

Jesús Artemio González, the dean of the College of Industrial Engineers of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, stated that the Conference will bring together experts, scholars, energy professionals, and political figures over the two-day event. Their collective aim is to progress towards a more resilient and sustainable electrical system.
