SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 16 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Court of First Instance and Instruction number 1 of Icod de los Vinos has verified through fingerprints that the body discovered yesterday, Monday, on the cliffs of Masca town, within Buenavista del Norte municipality, belongs to Jay Slater, the young Briton who had been missing since June 17, as reported by the communication office of the High Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC).

Following the autopsy conducted at the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences (IMLCF) in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, it has been established that his death resulted from multiple injuries consistent with an accidental fall in a rocky area, evident from the fractures present in his bones, according to the Civil Guard.

Jay Slater’s body was discovered by Civil Guard officers from the Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group (GREIM), and it was determined that he tragically fell in the steep and inaccessible area where he was found.

The Armed Forces have praised the tireless and persistent search efforts carried out by the various units of the Civil Guard, who relentlessly looked for the young man daily in the Masca region, until Monday when the GREIM agents, mountain specialists, located his lifeless body in a highly challenging location.

The young man, who had travelled to the island with friends for a holiday and to attend a music festival, disappeared in the Masca area after visiting a vacation rental with two other British individuals he had met on the island.

His final phone call was to a friend, during which he mentioned that his battery was low, he was disoriented, extremely thirsty, and was attempting to locate a bus to return to his apartment in the south of the island.
