SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 16th July (EUROPA PRESS) –
The executive committee of the Blue Economy Strategy in the Canary Islands (ECEA), led by the Minister of Economy, Industry, Trade and Self-Employed of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuel Domínguez, has given the green light to the 2024-2026 operational plan on Tuesday, with full integration of the private sector. The plan involves establishing an office to assess the most significant strategic projects for the Canary Islands in terms of the blue economy.
The Vice President and Minister for Economy, Industry, Trade and Self-Employed Workers, Manuel Domínguez, emphasized that “following a successful governance process that supported the 2021-2023 operational plan, it is now time to take concrete actions, secure real financing for projects, and progress towards the sustainability and diversification of the economic activities in the Canary Islands through the blue economy.”
The new operational plan includes six additional programmes: maritime spatial planning for the Canary Islands, employment generation in the blue economy sector, the shift towards a circular economy in maritime operations, promotion of industry for offshore wind energy development, digital transformation in maritime operations, ports and ship maintenance, and marine knowledge and culture dissemination.
The objective of the Canary Islands Blue Economy Strategy 2021-2030 is to harmonize public policies related to the blue economy in the Canary Islands, considering environmental sustainability and the competitiveness of the region’s productive sector.
