SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 16 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The identification papers found on the deceased individual discovered on Monday in the Masca area, within the Buenavista del Norte municipality (Tenerife), correspond to those of Jay Slater. All signs indicate that his demise was the result of an accidental descent, awaiting the conclusive findings of the post-mortem examination.

As per the communication office of the High Court of Justice of the Canary Islands, the post-mortem examination, encompassing the complete identification of the body and the cause of death, is expected to take some time due to the body’s significantly deteriorated condition. The Court of First Instance and Instruction No. 1 of Icod de los Vinos anticipates that the official identification will not be established until the following week.

The body was discovered by members of the Civil Guard affiliated with the Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group (GREIM), and all conjectures point towards it being that of the British individual Jay Slater, who had been missing for 29 days and presumably succumbed to an accidental fall in the rugged and inaccessible terrain where he was located, as reported by the Civil Guard.

The Armed Forces have emphasised the unwavering and consistent search efforts conducted by the various units of the Civil Guard, who tirelessly scoured the Masca area daily in pursuit of the young man, until the GREIM operatives, specialised in mountain rescue, located his lifeless body in an extremely remote location on Monday.

The outcome of the post-mortem examination is now awaited to ratify the accidental nature of the incident, as per the Civil Guard.

The young individual, who had travelled to the island with companions for a holiday and a music festival, went missing in the Masca area after visiting a holiday residence with two other British acquaintances he had met on the island.

His final phone call was to a friend, during which he mentioned having a low battery, feeling disoriented, extremely parched, and attempting to locate a bus to return to his accommodation in the southern part of the island.
