Tourists account for one third of breaches in conservation areas

Over the initial half of this year, over 400 reports regarding environmental violations have been lodged with the Tenerife Island Council. Out of these, 120 are related to the Teide National Park. A total of 141 violation notices were given to overseas visitors in protected natural spots – accounting for 35%, with 75 in Las Cañadas –, with 34 individuals (25%) having already paid fines, whilst the rest are pending processing. The island authority is making a concerted effort this year to ensure the correct notification and collection of fines issued to individuals residing outside Spain without a tax identification. By offering information in various languages and a specific bank account number, payments can be made through the Corporation’s Online Portal.
