Last night’s Enchanters’ Gala in San Benito made history by setting a new attendance record with over 10,000 people congregated around the La Concepción church, as reported by the Local Police data provided by the La Laguna City Council.
This year, there were more than 600 tables set up for the first time, spanning from the city centre to the vicinity of the San Benito chapel. Along with the numerous individuals who usually attend without a reserved table, this led to a surge of pilgrims at an event where they shared customs, cuisine, and revelled in the festivities and musical performances on the three stages provided.
The mayor, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, lauded “the tremendous turnout at the Enchanters’ Gala this year, surpassing all past historical records in terms of tables set and public attendance,” and expressed gratitude to “the residents who once again honoured the traditional attire, contributing to a vision that will be etched in our memory of these celebrations.”
“One of the major innovations of this gala was the extensive musical entertainment provided at various locations across the city, with three stages positioned between the tower of La Concepción, Marqués de Celada street, and notably, in the vicinity of the hermitage of San Benito, as the focal point of these iconic celebrations for every man or woman from La Laguna,” the mayor added.
On the other hand, the Festival Councillor, Dailos González, emphasised “the fantastic ambiance that was felt during this night of traditions, where the people of La Laguna adhered to customs and filled the provided tables to relish the local music, showcased by the guest folklore groups and the parrandas.”
The councillor also mentioned that this edition of the Enchanters’ Gala was closer than ever to the surroundings of San Benito, thanks to the hundred extra tables installed on Marqués de Celada street in response to demand.
