Commencing this Friday, the Tenerife Council is introducing the environmental fee for entry into the unspoilt areas of the island. This innovative tariff system will kick off with a trial phase in the Masca ravine located in the Buenavista del Norte municipality.

The scheme, overseen by the state-owned company Tragsa, outlines the following fees:

  • Visiting adult: 28 euros
  • Child visitor: 14 euros
  • Adult resident of the Canary Islands: 3 euros
  • Child resident of the Canary Islands: 1.5 euros

Meanwhile, access for locals on the island will be free of charge.

The detailed tariffs will be enforced starting this Friday.

Transportation Services

The Council has also announced a prohibition on private vehicle entry to the vicinity of the ravine between the conclusion of 2024 and the commencement of 2025, leading to the introduction of a shuttle bus system akin to the one in operation at Punta de Teno.

Though this service is separate from the eco-levy, it will require payment. The charges are as follows:

  • Visitors: 10 euros
  • Canary Island residents: 4 euros
  • Tenerife residents: exempt

In addition, the Cabildo and the Buenavista City Council have set a daily limit of 275 individuals.

The island administration asserts that the new regulations will enhance visitor safety and prevent overcrowding in the area, leading to a substantial restoration of its natural and scenic attributes.
