SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 12th Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Minister for Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, has seen an improvement of seven tenths in his assessment as a member of the central Government, rising from a score of 3.85 points to 4.58 points. This improvement has led him to exit the ‘worst-rated ministers’ list, as revealed by the July barometer conducted by the Centre for Sociological Research (CIS).

The increase of 0.73 points coincided with his handling of the migration crisis in the Canary Islands and negotiations regarding the distribution of migrant minors across various regions.

The Minister of Economy, Trade and Enterprise, Carlos Cuerpo, stands out as the highest-rated member of the Government team, alongside the Minister of Defence, Margarita Robles.

While the Minister of Economy (5.22 points) has a higher average score than Robles (5.13 points), it is important to note that he is much less recognised than the Minister of Defence. Only 22.2% of respondents are familiar with him, compared to 80.8% who are aware of Robles.

Cuerpo’s July score surpasses the last score achieved by his predecessor, Nadia Calviño, who obtained an average of 5.21 points in the October 2023 survey. Cuerpo entered the CIS surveys in April with 4.73 points, showing an increase of almost half a point now.

MORANT SECURES ‘BRONZE MEDAL’

Robles also experienced an improvement in her score, surpassing that of the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, who, despite being the best-rated political leader, holds a score of 4.32. The top-rated podium is completed by the Minister of Science, Innovation, and Universities, Diana Morant, with an average of 4.82, a significant rise from 4.31 in the previous barometer. Morant moved from fifteenth to third place, despite being known by only 21% of respondents.

Following them are the Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun, with 4.78; the Minister of Social Rights, Consumption, and Agenda 2030, Pablo Bustinduy, with 4.76; the Minister of Education, Vocational Training, and Sports, Pilar Alegría, with 4.71; and the Minister for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera, with 4.70. Ribera, who led the PSOE’s list in the recent European elections, has improved her score but dropped from third to sixth place.

BRIDGE, MARLASKA AND MONTERO TRAIL BEHIND

At the bottom of the ranking are the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, with a score of 3.79; the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, with a score of 3.86. The following lowest rated is the First Vice President and Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, with a score of 4.28.

Noteworthy from this barometer is the overall improvement in scores for the entire government team, including Pedro Sánchez, compared to April, except for Puente, whose score decreased from 3.89 to 3.79.

On the other hand, the Second Vice President and Minister of Labour, Yolanda Díaz, is the most well-known minister in the Council of Ministers, with her score moving from 4.38 to 4.47.
