The Cabildo of Tenerife, through the program Tenerife Isla Solidaria, managed by Sinpromi, has set up a service to assist migrants from the island.
It will do so in collaboration with volunteer organizations that work directly with the migrant community, offering them information, advice and guidance on available resources on migration.
As detailed by the CEO of Citizen Participation and Diversity, Nauzet Gugliotta, in a statement, this service was born during the pandemic, “when the real need of this group in basic matters such as food was revealed.”
In fact, already last year Tenerife Isla Solidaria coordinated the distribution of 520 food boxes to families and migrants in vulnerable situationsrecalls Gugliotta.
The purpose of this service will be to facilitate the normalization and social inclusion of migrants in an integral way, from the social, “with health or education as main actions”, to access to culture or sports.
The services that will be provided to migrants are specified in advice and referral to migration resources in Tenerife and also advice on the management and processing of resources.
In addition, they will be offered training in the Spanish language and the possibility of collaborating with volunteer actions as a means of social inclusion, the note details.
The volunteer entities attached to Tenerife Isla Solidaria that work with this group will be offered referral services for migrants, depending on the detected demands and available resources, as well as coordination with municipal resources and training in the field of migration and resource management.
A network of entities will also be promoted to promote social inclusion, the fight against racism, xenophobia and other forms of hatred.
For the development of this service, the Tenerife Isla Solidaria program has several locations in which to serve citizens.
On the one hand, the provisional headquarters currently occupied by the Volunteer Office, in the center of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and which will later be moved to the Insular Center of Volunteer Entities in La Cruz del Señor, once its renovation works are completed. .
And on the other, the Añaza Volunteer Entities Center; the Volunteer Office in the South of the Island, in San Miguel; and the Volunteer Office in the North, in Puerto de la Cruz.
