The City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, under the department of Strategic Planning, Environmental Sustainability, and Public Services, has imposed a 500 Euro fine on an individual for dumping grey water on the public road at the Las Teresitas beach parking area.

The incident took place on the 18th of March at 7:00 p.m. when local police officers caught the perpetrator red-handed emptying grey water from his caravan onto the parking lot. This violation is considered minor according to the municipal regulations on waste disposal and sanitation of public areas.

This kind of behaviour has a negative impact on the environment, contaminates the ground, and leads to the uncleanliness of public spaces. As a result, fines range from 2,000 Euros to 100,000 Euros, depending on the gravity of the offence.

As per the municipal decree, accessed by DIARIO DE AVISOS, a disciplinary process has been initiated against the accused based on the police report, which stated that the officers witnessed the caravan owner “disposing of grey water from it in the vehicle parking section of Las Teresitas beach.”

This act is considered a serious health hazard, not to mention the inconvenience caused to beach visitors who had to traverse a path where grey water had just been discharged, necessitating the intervention of cleaning services. If the perpetrator accepts his guilt, the fine will be reduced.
