SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 11th Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Tenerife Island Council is introducing a new charging system for entry into the island’s natural areas, starting with a trial phase in the stunning Masca ravine located in Buenavista del Norte municipality.

Managed by the public company Tragsa, the scheme outlines a fee of 28 euros for tourists (14 euros for children), three euros for Canarian residents (1.5 euros for children), and residents of the island will have free access.

The Council states that this new regulation aims to enhance visitor safety, reduce overcrowding in the area, and promote the recovery of its natural beauty and scenic charm.

The fee implementation begins immediately. By the end of the year or early next year, private vehicles will no longer have access to the ravine’s surroundings, with a shuttle bus service set to replace them.

This additional service, separate from the ‘eco-tax’ enforced by the island government, will cost tourists an extra 10 euros, Canarian residents four euros, and Tenerife residents will not be charged.

Furthermore, a daily cap of 275 visitors has been established through an agreement between the Cabildo and Buenavista City Council.
