The Tenerife Council has initiated the development of a plan for ‘eco-friendly travel’ in the Anaga Rural Park which aims to reach a consensus within one year to introduce a diverse transport system that reduces costs and waiting times.
This means that the island authority is dedicated to introducing a varied transport system incorporating personal vehicles, scheduled public transport, minibus services, on-demand transport, and discretionary transport with the goal of cutting costs and waiting times for locals and tourists.
To establish “a sustainable model for organising and managing transport” in this natural area, the Sustainable Mobility Strategy design will conduct an in-depth analysis and assessment of its current situation, including evaluating the efficiency and coverage of the public transport network.
The plan will also focus on improving access to the area, the suitability and positioning of parking facilities, bicycle safety measures, the adaptability of roads to accommodate cycle lanes, the network of paths and entry points, as well as assessing levels of environmental pollution and noise.
Island president, Rosa Dávila, emphasised during a press conference that the creation of the Sustainable Mobility Strategy in Anaga will require a collaborative approach, working closely with the respective municipalities, local Park associations, and other community stakeholders.
“The goal is to enhance and establish a sustainable model for managing transport in a protected natural area of significant ecological and cultural importance, aiming to enhance the quality of life for its residents and preserve the environment through efficient, safe, and eco-friendly transport,” she stated.
