The upcoming Adeje Summer University session will delve into examining the effects of tourism on the culture, traditions, and historical legacy of the Archipelago, alongside the objectives defined in the Canary Islands Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Two central themes of discussion will be the seminars on Managing Sociocultural Impacts of Tourism and the Canary Islands in Action: Engagement and Sustainable Practices, scheduled to run from July 22nd to 26th in the mornings.

Under the guidance of Alberto J. Rodríguez Darias, a professor of Social Anthropology at the University of La Laguna, the Managing Sociocultural Impacts of Tourism course targets students and professionals in the field aiming to deepen their comprehension of the tourism industry. The primary goal of this course is to equip participants with the requisite skills to identify the repercussions of tourism activities and instruct them on employing analytical tools to develop effective strategies.

Scheduled from July 22nd to 24th, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the course will feature industry experts sharing their insights during face-to-face classes, case studies, and group projects. The session will be initiated by ULL professors Alberto Jonay Rodríguez Darias and Agustín Santana Talavera, specialists in the tourism sector, who will focus on portraying Tourism as a sociocultural phenomenon embedded in broader contexts.

Following this, Professor Lorena Isabel Márquez González and Professors David Domínguez González and Pablo Díaz Rodríguez will delve into the Sociocultural Impacts of Tourism, highlighting the various typologies, attributes, and classifications. Subsequent to the diagnostic phase, experts Alberto Rodríguez and Lorena Márquez will guide participants through techniques to structure effective strategies and plans aimed at enhancing the sociocultural sustainability of tourist destinations.

CANARY ISLANDS AGENDA 2030

The second seminar of the Adeje Summer University agenda, relevant to the tourism sector, is dedicated to Canary Islands in Action: Engagement and Sustainable Practices, scheduled from July 22nd to 25th in the morning. Headed by ULL professor Itahisa Pérez Pérez, the session aims to analyse the Canary Islands Agenda for Sustainable Development with a focus on enhancing community and emotional well-being.

The course will employ a participatory, dynamic, and constructive approach, following the cognitive development principles proposed by Piaget and Vygotsky. Emphasizing experiential learning, cooperative techniques, the integration of digital tools, and reflective practices.
