The vibrant capital of Santa Cruz is gearing up to offer an engaging and active summer for youngsters, with an impressive 2,700 available spots spread across different sports activities scheduled for the months of July, August, and September at various outdoor venues throughout the city. The programme, curated by the City Council’s Sports department, will focus on swimming, surfing, skateboarding courses, a multi-sport campus, and an innovative inclusive campus introduced for the first time this year.
Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez highlighted that “Santa Cruz is set for a summer filled with activities, including sports, allowing both young people and adults to engage in physical exercise outdoors.” The diverse range of courses and campuses caters to different interests, with swimming courses offering 2,000 spots, the Las Teresitas Multisport campus accommodating 500 participants, and a new skate course with 100 spaces set to take place in La Granja park.

Notably, this year will see the inauguration of an inclusive campus specially designed for families with children with disabilities, offering around 20 spots at the Las Delicias de Ofra Sports Complex. Additionally, a surfing initiation course will be available at either Roque de las Bodegas or Almáciga beaches, depending on tidal conditions.
Speaking about the initiative, Sports Councillor Alicia Cebrián stated, “Our goal is to encourage and facilitate outdoor sports activities, particularly those near the sea. This is why Las Teresitas beach has been transformed into the primary sports hub in Santa Cruz.” Alongside the new additions, the established swimming courses at the Acidalio Lorenzo municipal swimming pool and the Las Teresitas Multisport campus will continue, with the latter extending its schedule to run throughout July due to its previous success.

The skateboarding course targets children aged 6 to 17 and will be conducted at La Granja park during July to promote this urban sport. Meanwhile, the swimming course, based at the municipal pool, will run during July and August for children aged 4 to 13. The surfing course will cater to kids aged 8 to 17, and the inclusive campus at Las Delicias is designed for children aged 6 to 17 with a minimum 33% disability.

All the activities, priced between 11 and 70 euros, require registration either through the website www.santacruzentrena.es or in person at the Acidalio Lorenzo swimming pool offices.
