Sebastián Franquis, Minister of Public Works, Transport and Housing of the Canary Islands Governmentannounced yesterday that his department is trying to start up in this mandate 80% of the road works in Tenerife included in the agreement with the State. “We are talking about an ambitious planning for this Island that, if the environmental procedures allow us, I hope that many of these projects can begin to be executed between the end of the year 2022 and the beginning of 2023″, he explained before assuring that this implies ” a significant public investment in roads in Tenerife that could add up to more than 500 million euros. This is what we are working on right now from the Ministry.

In his appearance in parliamentary commission, he stressed that the budgets of the counseling that it manages reflect this bet, since they contain a forecast of investment of more than 77 million euros in works and projects to be developed during the next year. “The forecast is that the year 2022 will be essential to give a definitive boost to the main road works in Tenerife,” explained Franquis, who uses budgets to verify this fact. «In recent years we have budgeted more investment resources to Tenerife, not by chance. It is done because we are prioritizing an Island that has a huge and historical deficit in this matter. That is why we are promoting 15 projects and execution of works to develop them before the end of this legislature.

He referred to the Chafiras-Oroteanda link, in San Miguel de Abona; the landscape integration project of the Insular Ring between Adeje and Santiago del Teide as well as the Santiago del Teide-El Tanque section, also on the Insular Ring, the work with the highest budget of all those awarded in Spain in 2019, with 240 million euros.

Among the projects that the Ministry is planning to develop in Tenerife are the aforementioned closure of the Insular Ring between San Juan de la Rambla and Icod de los Vinos, the third lane of the North highway (TF-5) between La Orotava and the North Airport, the La Laguna ring road, the third lane between Guamasa and Los Rodeos, the Mesa Mota tunnel, the Santa María del Mar link next to the connection between the TF-1 and TF-5 and the Section A of Ofra-El Chorrillo, the third lane of the TF-1 between San Isidro and Playa de Las Américas, as well as between Güímar and San Isidro, from San Isidro itself to Oroteanda and between Oroteanda and Las Américas, the connection of the South highway with the Port of Los Cristianos or the section and false tunnel between Las Américas and Fañabé.
