The Local Police in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is currently operating with less than half of their available motorcycle fleet. The CSIF union reported that “out of the 20 motorcycles that should be in operation, 12 are currently in the workshop awaiting repairs, leaving only eight in service.”
Jesús Illada, the union representative, highlighted that “this issue has arisen due to the City Council’s outstanding debt of over 3,000 euros with the workshop for previous repairs. As a result, officers are unable to use motorcycles for traffic duties, forcing them to use rented patrol vehicles instead, which do not have the same repair constraints for the council.”
On the other hand, Security Councillor Gladis de León stated that “there are currently ten motorcycles at the workshop, with six expected to be fully operational in the next few days after undergoing repairs.” The Councillor explained that the delay in repairs was mainly due to a shortage of spare parts. “At present, eight motorcycles are operational, and the remaining six will be back in service soon.”
Addressing the alleged debt with the workshop, De León mentioned that “efforts are being made to resolve this issue promptly, as the payment order is being processed by the Intervention. The delay has been attributed to a lack of administrative personnel, which is also being addressed.”
