SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 5th Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –
A collaboration agreement has been established between the Tenerife Island Council and Lisbon to enhance the quality of artisan crafts. This alliance was solidified during a reception hosted by the Lisbon Council for a delegation from the Tenerife Island Council, headed by the Minister of Employment and Education, Efraín Medina.
This initiative is part of the preparations for the upcoming Tricontinental Fair, scheduled to take place at the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Fairgrounds in October, with a special focus on Portugal.
Efraín Medina expressed that this day is a significant milestone for the Tenerife Island Council, highlighting the international recognition that Tenerife has achieved through dedicated efforts. These efforts have allowed them to gain firsthand knowledge of the various artisan trades in Portugal.
With the support of the Portuguese Federation of Arts and Crafts (FPAO), the Tenerife delegation visited the Lisbon International Crafts Fair, which is currently ongoing until 7th July. This fair is recognised as the largest multicultural event in the Iberian Peninsula and the second-largest in Europe.
Medina emphasised the valuable contacts established during the visit, facilitating future meetings between artisans from Portugal and Tenerife to enhance craftsmanship through innovation.
He also mentioned that the Portuguese Institute for Business and Professional Training in Crafts has offered their support for the Tricontinental Crafts Fair in Tenerife, which promises to be a significant event.
The official poster for the Tricontinental Fair, designed by Aarón Morales, was unveiled at Lisbon City Hall in collaboration with the Federation of Arts and Crafts of Portugal.
Prior to the official presentation, Efraín Medina met with the Mayor of Lisbon, Carlos Moedas, and the Deputy Mayor Joana Oliveira.
TRICONTINENTAL FAIR
Throughout the years, the Tricontinental Craft Fair has established itself as a cultural bridge connecting Latin America, Africa, and Southern Europe, promoting and showcasing artisan events from across the Atlantic.
The fair’s popularity continues to soar due to the diverse range of artisans, products, techniques, and positive reception from the audience, positioning it as a key event in the regional fair calendar. It stands out as the largest platform for the foreign crafts market in Spain.
This year, the seventh edition of the Tricontinental Craft Fair will pay tribute to Portugal, a nation with historical ties to the Canary Islands, leaving a lasting cultural and economic impact on the islands. Portugal is renowned for its craftsmanship, including ceramics, tiles, leather goods, embroidery, jewellery, and woodworking.
The fair will maintain its international appeal, showcasing a variety of Ibero-American and African crafts and, naturally, featuring artisans from Tenerife along with representation from other islands. Additionally, various festive and engaging activities such as competitions, workshops, exhibitions, performances, and networking events will enhance the fair experience for both visitors and participants.
