SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 4th Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Island Council of Tenerife has initiated the planning process for the pilgrimage to Candelaria, which takes place on August 15 in honor of the Virgin, attracting over 100,000 attendees in the days leading up to and during the festivities.
Blanca Pérez, Minister for the Environment, Sustainability, Security, and Emergencies, emphasized the significance of “meticulous planning of an operation that considers potential contingencies, given the high number of people expected on the paths and roads.” The Minister added, “In light of last year’s significant fire, we need to ensure the safety of the routes and roads leading to Candelaria, as well as transportation.”
Iván Martín, Director of Security and Emergencies, highlighted the importance of such coordination to ensure that all resources are aligned and ready to guarantee safety during the traditional and religious pilgrimage to Candelaria.
The island’s Natural Environment Director, Pedro Millán, mentioned that they are currently inspecting the conditions of the paths and roads. Once the assessment is complete, they will finalize the strategies for the celebrations that draw crowds to Candelaria.
