SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 4 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Ministry of Education of the Canary Islands has released a manual on the management, upkeep, and maintenance of public educational facilities under regional jurisdiction. This manual aims to provide guidance to management teams, staff, and external contractors responsible for these tasks.

The guide includes measures for prevention and maintenance to be implemented each academic year to ensure the efficient functioning of the facilities. It reflects the dedicated effort to enhance the school infrastructure across the archipelago, spearheaded by the department led by Poli Suárez.

Additionally, the educational institutions covered in this handbook, prepared by the technical team of the General Directorate of Infrastructure and Equipment, will be equipped with the necessary resources and protocols to preserve the infrastructure’s integrity, reduce maintenance costs, and prevent wear and tear.

Specifically, the manual outlines the maintenance guidelines to be routinely followed in various educational establishments in the region such as secondary education institutes, compulsory education centres, vocational training centres, school residences, language schools, adult education centres, art and design schools, special education centres, and conservatories.

This digital manual, available on the Ministry’s website, has been designed for easy updates to align with the evolving construction and technical requirements. It is structured comprehensively for convenient reference and complies with the current regulations for the maintenance of public school buildings overseen by the Government.

Moreover, it includes a schedule emphasising the importance of regular maintenance activities for educational facilities. This clarifies the responsibilities regarding maintenance and upkeep held by both contracted firms and in-house maintenance personnel of regional educational centres.

Furthermore, the guide offers advice on the proper use, maintenance, and conservation practices for external maintenance contractors, school staff, and management teams to ensure the infrastructure’s quality, minimise repair costs, and prevent accidental or wear-related damage, ensuring smooth operations for the educational community.

The manual also highlights specific elements that maintenance personnel must closely monitor, including foundations, structures, enclosures, carpentry, insulation, coatings, equipment, and installations.

INCIDENT MANAGEMENT

In addition, this manual introduces a new incident reporting system for educational facilities, featuring a more efficient and user-friendly interface that is closely integrated with educational centres. This system enhances processing times, response quality, and provides a comprehensive view of application progress, while easing administrative burdens.

The guide provides detailed instructions on the operation of this system, accessible through the CAU_CE platform (Maintenance Incident Creation section in Educational Infrastructure Buildings), offering management the option to select from eight action categories, forty-two subcategories, and nearly one hundred and forty specific actions.
