A myriad of sentences, rulings, appeals, and resources keep the Monument to Franco in Santa Cruz de Tenerife not only steadfast in its location on Avenida de Anaga but also in the midst of controversy.
Since this fountain was included in the catalog approved by the Government of the Canary Islands as a list of elements to be removed from the Islands in compliance with the Historical Memory Law, positions against and in favor of demolishing it have also been constant in the courts, until a recent judicial ruling opted to keep the monument in place.
While some defend their stance on the suitability of removing this monument to Franco, few remember that there was once another monolith of exaltation to the dictator that ended up being dismantled.
