SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 2 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has decreed the closure of a segment of Las Teresitas beach for swimming, specifically the central portion at access point 8, due to the detection of unusually high levels of pollution in the water.

The findings have been labelled as “short-term” by the Health Inspection and Laboratory Service of the Health Area of Tenerife within the Health Service of the Canary Islands (SCS).

This matter has been brought to the attention of the Municipal Department of Environmental Sustainability and Health, which has deemed this area unfit for swimming.

Necessary steps have already been taken to monitor the situation closely through routine checks conducted at Las Teresitas, as informed by the City Council in a statement.

Indeed, the results from water quality tests indicate that the pollution levels call for the precautionary measure of closing off this swimming zone.

Beach rescue and lifeguard personnel have been tasked with hoisting the red flag at access point eight, outlining the boundaries of the affected area and alerting beachgoers about the situation.

According to the established protocol for such circumstances following a water quality alert, city employees have recollected samples from that specific beach location this Tuesday to verify whether these adverse readings persist or have dissipated.
