EXPLORING ISORA | Agreement confirmed between CC and PP by the Mayor of Guía de Isora, Ana Dorta, and Carlos Álvarez

The Mayor of Guía de Isora, Ana Dorta (CC) and the Deputy Mayor, Carlos Álvarez (PP), ratified the government agreement “until the end of the term” (2023-2027) despite the departure of the nationalist David Reyes to the Mixto Group.

The Plenary Hall of the Guía Town Hall hosted a press conference yesterday where Dorta and Álvarez evaluated the governance of the municipality after CC and PP obtained 10 councillors, the same number as the PSOE, led by the former Mayor in the previous term (2029-2023) Josefa Mesa. Reyes remains as councillor number 21.

Both political leaders emphasized the strength of the agreement and highlighted the “responsibility and enthusiasm to work towards a better municipality”.

The Mayor began by apologising for not providing statements earlier as she wanted to do so “without any distinction”. She also acknowledged that “with the intention of redirecting the situation, the Popular Party, Coalición Canaria, and our government team needed a reasonable amount of time for reflection”.

The Mayor emphasised “the willingness, generosity, and effort shown by both political parties” regarding the situation with David Reyes becoming a non-attached councillor.

Ana Dorta valued a government agreement with “responsibility and loyalty to the commitment made”, which “remains unconditionally intact with Guía de Isora”. The latter idea, that of commitment, was also underscored by Carlos Álvarez, who refuted information regarding a possible vote of no confidence. “In recent weeks, the possible presentation of a vote of no confidence has been conveyed to the public, knowing that it requires the involvement of the Popular Party,” stated Álvarez before concluding: “We want to resolve this issue, also providing calmness not only to our voters but to the whole municipality in general”. The Deputy Mayor concluded: “We will continue to work tirelessly as we have been doing since June 2023 when the people gave us their trust. With successes and mistakes, but with the sole intention of bringing Guía de Isora out of the stagnation it was in”.

Ana Dorta took the opportunity to announce the resignation of councillor Guillermo Guzmán due to health issues. “In an act that honours him, he will pass the baton to the next colleague on the CC list to focus on his full recovery”. The Mayor thanked him for his work and commitment to the municipality “for more than 20 years, both in opposition and in government”. She wished him “all the best, peace of mind, and calmness for a swift recovery”.
