Yesterday, the mayor of Isora, Ana Isabel Dorta, and the first deputy mayor, Carlos Javier Álvarez, came out to confirm their commitment to the governing alliance (CC-PP) for the remaining three years of their term. During a press conference at the City Hall’s plenary hall, Ana Dorta (CC) and Carlos Javier Álvarez (PP) expressed their determination to continue the partnership established after the May 2023 elections, following councilor David Agustín Reyes’ decision to leave the Coalición Canaria group and become an unaffiliated councillor in the Isora corporation.

This political development, as reported by DIARIO DE AVISOS, has resulted in the local government losing its absolute majority, now standing with only 10 councillors – the same number as the PSOE councillors, who received the highest number of votes a year ago. The socialists would require two more councillors to achieve a strengthened majority that would enable them to propose a vote of no confidence. It is worth mentioning that the agreement between Coalición Canaria and Partido Popular ousted PSOE from power after 28 years leading the local Executive.
Dorta emphasised her determination to address the situation and confirmed that councilor David Reyes’ dismissal from the governing group would be put into effect during the plenary session held immediately after the press conference. The former nationalist councillor justified his decision by citing the “lack of loyalty and trust from the mayor”, which, he claimed, hindered his ability to “fulfill the numerous obligations and commitments made”.
The mayor firmly stated that both the Partido Popular and Coalición Canaria remain “resolute in the face of political changes, focused on Guía de Isora’s interests, and committed to tangible actions, not just rhetoric.”
Ana Dorta stressed that “this motivates us to work even harder, if possible,” and assured that “our dedication and commitment remain unwavering.”

Various discussions

The first deputy mayor, Carlos Javier Álvarez (PP), highlighted that the current agreement is “the most beneficial for Guía de Isora”, as it provides, as he pointed out, “moderation and equilibrium for a new drive.”
The second-in-command of the governing alliance mentioned that negotiations have been underway with David Agustín Reyes to seek a resolution and, regarding the prospect of a potential vote of no confidence, he conveyed a message of “calm to the voters and the community at large.”
Both municipal authorities expressed their confidence in rectifying the situation and appealed to virtues such as “determination, stability, accountability, persistence, and consistent effort.” They also conveyed their appreciation to “colleagues and residents.”

RESIGNATION

Ana Dorta seized the moment to announce Guillermo Guzmán’s resignation as a councillor, due to health issues. “In a commendable act, Guillermo will step down from his position and pass it on to the next candidate on the Coalición Canaria list to focus on his complete recovery,” she revealed.
The mayor expressed her gratitude for his service and dedication to the community. Visibly moved, Guillermo Guzmán thanked the Isora councillor for her kind words.
