On Friday evening, the town of Adeje honoured Zacarías Miguel Galindo González, declaring him the Favourite Son of the Historic Town of Adeje. This title was bestowed upon him by unanimous agreement of the municipal council. It is a tribute to a prominent figure in the town, the son of blacksmith Miguel. The event highlighted the growth and development of Adeje, from a small town with only 6,500 inhabitants in 1968, to one of the most prosperous municipalities in the Canary Islands today. Galindo’s journey began at the age of 13, combining studies, work in his father’s blacksmith shop, tending to family orchards, and starting as a waiter in a nightclub. His dedication and entrepreneurial vision eventually led to the establishment of a successful business that significantly contributed to Adeje’s progress.

During the ceremony, Mayor José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga shared the reasons behind awarding this honour. He emphasised how Galindo and his family embodied the values of hard work, solidarity, and love for their land, essential for the growth of Adeje. The mayor expressed gratitude on behalf of the town for Galindo’s contributions to employment, education, culture, and traditions, shaping the current landscape of Adeje.

In his address, Galindo González expressed his appreciation for the recognition and thanked the municipal council and all those involved in the decision. He paid tribute to his family, reflecting on his humble beginnings and the support he received throughout his journey. Galindo recounted how his upbringing and experiences in Adeje shaped his perspective and drive to succeed, leading to the establishment of his business group operating across multiple countries.

Despite facing challenges, including abandoning his studies in Fine Arts due to financial constraints, Galindo returned to work with his father and grandfather, witnessing the progress of Adeje and its people. His entrepreneurial endeavours, starting with Manuel Galindo and Sons, revolutionised agricultural practices in the region, making significant contributions to the local economy.

The award ceremony took place at the former Franciscan convent honouring Our Lady of Guadalupe, attended by over 200 guests. Dignitaries, local officials, business leaders, and representatives from various organisations gathered to celebrate Galindo’s achievements and his impact on Adeje’s development.
