David Reyes, the councilor who recently left the Canarian Coalition group in Guía de Isora, thereby causing the municipal government (CC and PP) to lose its absolute majority as he became an independent councilor, justifies his decision by pointing out the “absence of loyalty and good faith of the mayor”, the nationalist Ana Dorta. He stated, “I have noticed a lack of support and confidence, which has hindered my ability to fulfil the numerous responsibilities and commitments I have taken on,” said the former second deputy mayor and former councilor for Municipal Services, Health, Concessionary and Service Companies, Works, Transport, and Human Resources.
Reyes, who waited until his dismissal was confirmed to express his views in a statement, emphasized that working under such circumstances had caused him “significant physical and emotional stress” and believed that the situation had become “untenable, not only due to the workload, but also because of the frustration of being unable to realise the projects that the people of Isora deserve.”
While expressing his appreciation for all the City Council employees for their “dedication, cooperation, and daily hard work,” as well as to the residents of Guía de Isora “for their trust”, and to his family, “for their understanding, encouragement, and patience,” the independent councilor made it clear that the decision taken “does not signify a step backwards, but rather a step aside” and affirmed that his dedication to the municipality of Guía de Isora was “firm and unwavering,” which is why he stated he would continue to work from his new position for the “prosperity and progress” of the municipality in the southwest of the Island.
