David Reyes, the councillor who has left the CC group in the Council of Guía de Isora to become non-attached, spoke this Friday for the first time about why he made this decision, which has left the municipal government without a majority. Reyes points to the former party colleague, Mayor Ana Dorta, who until last Wednesday, when he announced his departure, was: “I am leaving due to the lack of loyalty and good faith of the mayor. I have noticed a lack of support and trust that has hindered my work in fulfilling the numerous obligations in the various areas under my responsibility.”
“The conditions described above have caused significant physical and emotional wear and tear,” reveals Reyes, who adds: “Despite my effort and dedication, this situation has reached an unsustainable point, affecting my personal well-being.”
The Isorano Government of CC and PP now has ten councillors, the same as the opposition of PSOE. David Reyes’ votes will be crucial. “I will continue working from my new position for the well-being and development of Guía de Isora,” says David Reyes, who thanks the Town Hall employees for their professionalism and effort; the residents for their support; and his family for the support and patience they have provided.
“I have noticed a lack of support and trust that has hindered my work in fulfilling the numerous obligations in the various areas under my responsibility,” says the resigning councillor.

David Reyes ceases to be the deputy mayor and councillor responsible for the areas of Municipal Services, Health, Concessionaire Companies and Services, Works, Transport and Human Resources of the City Council of Guía de Isora. This is the complete statement that he sent to the media this Friday:
“By means of this communication, once I have received notification of my dismissal, I am addressing you to communicate a personal and professional decision that has been the result of deep reflection. I, David A. Reyes González, have carried out my activity in the City Council of Guía de Isora as a councillor, deputy mayor, in charge of the areas of Municipal Services, Health, Concessionaire Companies and Services, Works, Transport and Human Resources, belonging to the Coalition Canaria party.
I have decided to leave the Municipal Government and become a non-attached councillor, with deep consternation. This has not been an easy decision; I have weighed different alternatives over the last months that have not materialised and have led to this statement. The fundamental reasons that justify my decision are due to a lack of loyalty and good faith on the part of the mayor of this City Council.

Over time, I have observed a lack of support and trust, which has hindered my work in fulfilling the numerous obligations and commitments acquired in the various areas under my responsibility. The management of the different departments, under the previously described conditions, has caused significant physical and emotional wear and tear. Despite my effort and dedication, this situation has become unsustainable, affecting my personal well-being, not only due to the workload but also due to the frustration of not being able to materialise the projects that the residents of Isora deserve.
I want to express my deepest gratitude to all the employees of the City Council of Guía de Isora for their commitment, collaboration and daily effort. Their commitment and professionalism have been fundamental in carrying out the challenges entrusted to me. Likewise, I deeply thank the citizens of Guía de Isora for the trust they have placed in me; their support has been a constant driving force in my work as a public servant.
I also thank my family, fundamental pillars and those who have been most affected by my personal situation. Their understanding, support and patience have been invaluable during this time, allowing me to fully dedicate myself to my responsibilities to the municipality. I want to make it clear that this decision does not represent a step backwards, but a step sideways. My unwavering commitment to the municipality of Guía de Isora remains unchanged; I will continue working from my new position for the well-being and development of Guía de Isora Municipality. Yours sincerely, David A. Reyes González”.
“I also thank my family, fundamental pillars and those who have been most affected by my personal situation.”

This move means that the local government formed by CC (6) and PP (4), with the nationalist Ana Dorta as mayor, now has 10 councillors. The absolute majority is set at 11, which is now the sum of PSOE (10) and the non-attached councillor, David Reyes. CC (ATI) regained the mayoralty of Isora in 2023, afterThe Political Landscape in Guía de Isora under Strain
The victory of Pedro Martín (PSOE) in the 1995 elections over Pedro Reyes, the father of councillor David Reyes, caused fractures within the heart of Coalición Canaria in Guía de Isora. These rifts now weaken the municipal government just a year after the nationalists, who secured seven councillors in last year’s May local elections, entered into a coalition with the PP (four councillors) and ended 28 consecutive years of socialist leadership. The situation escalated last Wednesday when David Reyes left the Isorano municipal government in a minority position.
Ana Dorta’s cabinet enters a complex phase, but despite its fragility, for now, it can maintain control. The cabinet has reduced from 11 to 10 councillors, the same number as the PSOE, but the socialists cannot propose a motion of censure as they require a reinforced majority of 12 councillors. They would need the support of David Reyes and one more councillor to proceed. It seems unlikely that any CC or PP councillor will make such a move. There are no other parties represented in the Guía de Isora Town Council apart from nationalists, populists, and socialists. There are no pieces for a checkmate.
“There is a long road ahead for the Isorano government which will always depend on the actions of David Reyes as a non-affiliated councillor.”
Once the Partido Popular confirmed that it will uphold its pact commitments with CC, preferring to stay out of the internal cracks in its partner, even if they affect the municipal government’s stability, and with David Reyes’ departure a certainty, a long road lies ahead that will always depend on the actions of David Reyes as a non-affiliated councillor, meaning without a party affiliation.
“If Reyes continues to support the CC-PP government, despite his resignation, the casting vote of Ana Dorta as mayor will allow the Guía de Isora leadership team to push forward with the measures brought before the council. However, if Reyes rebels and votes against, the Isorano government will face a serious problem: it will not be able to advance its initiatives. A de facto deadlock. We are talking about a significant municipality for Tenerife, with over 20,000 residents and an increasingly substantial role in the tourism industry, Tenerife’s main economic driver.”
