This weekend, the village of Las Carboneras in La Laguna is all set to relish in the 14th Annual Festival in Honour of San Isidro Labrador and Santa María de la Cabeza, with a focus on its iconic pilgrimage. Expect vibrant dances, folklore troupes, a splash of colour, and traditional attire to sweep through the streets of this quaint town nestled in the Anaga massif region over the next few days.
Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, the mayor of La Laguna, revisited that “the pilgrimage’s foundation lies in a livestock blessing and display, which gradually transformed into this celebrated festival for both the municipality and the hamlet.” He also revealed that this year’s pilgrimage procession will feature eight floats and ten folklore groups.
Dailos González, the councillor for Lagunero Festivals, expressed his admiration and gratitude “for the dedication demonstrated by the members of the Carboneras Festival Commission, who tirelessly work each year to ensure that this pilgrimage and the pre-and post-events captivate an ever-growing local and visiting audience.”
The highlight of the event, scheduled for Sunday, will kick off with a religious service at the San Isidro hermitage at 1:30 p.m., followed thirty minutes later by the official commencement of the Las Carboneras Pilgrimage. The procession will set off from the hermitage square, winding through the main road, the streets of Los Rojas and El Lomo, before returning to the square, which stands as the heart of this festivity.
Once the parade concludes, the festive atmosphere will ascend, with Tenerife and Malibú orchestras providing the lively tunes. The Festival Committee and the La Laguna City Council urge attendees to join in the merriment adorned in traditional garb.
