SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 27th June (EUROPA PRESS) –
The working group on the demographic challenge will now include the Canary Islands Council for Sustainable Development.
Deputy Minister of the Presidency, Alfonso Cabello, announced this after a meeting held on Thursday at the Lazaro-Siliuto house in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where advancements in the Canary Islands Agenda 2030 strategy were discussed.
According to Cabello, the professionals and groups within this Council can provide valuable insights “from a geographical and interdisciplinary perspective towards addressing the challenges that the Canary Islands are grappling with in the strategy developed post the conference of presidents and the meeting with municipalities with populations below 10,000.”
This approach, he stated, “aims to merge diverse viewpoints in order to ensure that the actions taken align with the vision we have for the future of the Canary Islands, striving to achieve the highest levels of well-being possible.”
Furthermore, Cabello mentioned that the Council could also play a role in amending the Climate Change Law and contribute to the recently sanctioned INTERREG-MAC projects.
The challenges faced by the Canary Islands, as a geographically remote and fragmented region, are significant, and in addition to the demographic challenge, particular emphasis must be placed on enhancing the circular economy, energy production, and evaluating strategies to achieve not only economic sustainability but also cultural and social well-being, according to a statement from the Executive.
Highlighting the statement, he said, “Human mobility, migration, and refugee policies are of particular importance.”
