The Cabildo has allocated £1.6 million for the construction of a new potable water tank in Vilaflor to cater to the municipality’s population. The Government Council approved this investment yesterday for the implementation of the reservoir (El Salguero II) to ensure the protection, monitoring and utilisation of public hydraulic waters in the town.

Yesterday, the president of the island, Rosa Dávila, along with the vice president, Lope Afonso, announced that the Cabildo and the City Council of Vilaflor have authorised “the construction of a potable water tank that will ensure the water supply to over 2,000 residents” in the municipality in response to a long-standing request from the council and the locals.

The Cabildo will provide the funding for the reservoir, while the local authority will oversee the construction, which is expected to be completed within 12 months. This new infrastructure will ensure a stable water supply to the population, as the current facility lacks capacity due to its age, making maintenance challenging.

TLP 2024

Additionally, Rosa Dávila mentioned that the Council has approved a budget of £750,000 for hosting the Tenerife Lan Party (TLP) 2024 at the Fairgrounds from September 3 to 8, “after a four-year hiatus.” She highlighted that this edition will introduce innovative approaches, incorporating activities not only in technology and entertainment but also in education and employment. It is poised to be a very ambitious event,” she stated.

Furthermore, an agreement was reached with the Faculty of Sciences of the ULL to conduct research and enhance the conservation status of wild species, their habitats, and the threats that affect the biodiversity of the island. This collaboration will involve formulating recovery, conservation, and management plans for the protected species found in Tenerife.

In the field of Social Action, Lope Afonso announced that the Council has approved a budget adjustment of £2.3 million “to fund various needs and infrastructure development,” with approximately £556,000 allocated for enhancing the air conditioning system of the Hospital Nuestra Señora de Los Dolores, £750,000 for the funding of the new El Remanso Functional Home for the Promotion of Personal Autonomy project, and one million for “entities with specific requirements.”

Grants

The Governing Council also sanctioned various subsidy calls, including £80,000 for initiatives promoting awareness and education on LGBTIQ+ issues, £1,025,000 for renovating facilities and equipment for retail trade, and £150,000 to enhance the traceability of Tenerife wines’ production process.

In the cultural realm, a £700,000 grant was approved for the creation, production, and advancement of audiovisual projects in Tenerife. It encompasses four categories, and works carried out between January 1, 2024, and December 31, 2026 will be considered.

Additionally, an agreement was made with San Juan de la Rambla to enhance the El Volcán football field, with a budget of £353,295 for sports purposes.
